Recently married and looking to move to the Portland area and get out of the Phoenix heat. I need to come out and go to some interviews and do some scouting of the city (I have lived in Portland before, but its been too long). Looking for a decent weekly rate motel in the area. Would like to avoid druggies or drama, but would also like to keep the price reasonable.

Let me know if you have any experience or could suggest a place. Thanks!

Hotel DeLuxe is a great boutique hotel located in downtown. It's very close to the max line so you could even take max from the hotel to the zoo. They have great packages and rooms are much cheaper than some of the really nice hotels downtown, but just as nice. The rooms are a little small, but very nice.

Hotel Lucia is DeLuxe's sister hotel, which is also nice. I don't think either have pools though.

The Benson is also downtown and very nice. Beautiful lobby and bar area. Again, don't think they have a pool. Portland doesn't really have the weather for outdoor pools.

Hi, Chris! Portland is just like my second home, as I have been there for many times. This is a lovely city, with pleasant weather and I really love it.

If you are looking for best yet affordable weekly motels, here are some recommendations.

1. Econo Lodge City Center (1889 SW 4th Ave.)

2. Extended Stay America - Portland - Gresham (1777 N.E. Sacramento St.)

3. Best Western Inn at the Meadows (1215 N Hayden Meadows Drive)

4. Nordic Motel (11942 Northeast Sandy Boulevard)

5. Candlewood Suites Portland Airport (11250 Northeast Holman Street)

Be sure to check the websites of these hotels and find out what amenities these hotels include and their prices. Then choose your hotel according to these aspects. If these hotels are beyond your budget, you can have a look at these cheap hotels in Portland. Then give them a ring and ask whether they offer weekly rates.

By the way, how long do you plan to stay? If you plan t stay for a long time, more than 1 month or two months), it is better to rent an apartment. This will save you more money. Anyway, if you choose to rent an apartment in Portland, you may turn to Portland craigslist. There, you can find almost apartment for rent of any type and budget.

= The McMenamin's properties are also a unique getaway and not too spendy. They are more rustic, but typically have soaking pools and nice spas. Kennedy School is on the east side of Portland and closest to the downtown area, but Edgefield is a winery and spa hotel about 15-20 minutes outside of Portland and very romantic. They have weddings there every weekend.
